CIA Eligibility Requirements

To sit the CIA exam you need: a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (any field); 24 months of internal audit or equivalent work experience; and a character reference from a CIA, CGAP, CCSA, CFSA, or CRMA holder, or from a supervisor. Importantly, you can sit the CIA exam before completing your work experience — once you pass all three parts, you have 7 years to complete the experience requirement.

How Long Does CIA Take?

Most candidates clear all three CIA parts in 9–18 months. Taking parts sequentially is recommended: Part 1, then Part 2, then Part 3. With focused study of 8–10 hours per week, many working professionals complete all three parts within a year while maintaining full-time employment.
